Excerpts - PRINCIPLES BY RHONDELL
Excerpt from Unknown Workshop
The difference between an electrician and an electrical engineer is that the latter has at their command more principles. The difference between an advisor and a counselor is that the latter has at their command more principles. From now on we will be talking about principles. In order to facilitate this discussion of principles, we will start with this definition of terms. (The troubled person assumes they know the problem.)
Results – Looking for an end. (We aren’t interested in results, only in understanding the problem.)
Doing – Action (present time)
Rights – That which no one has.
Privileges – That which is given to one and is maintained, enhanced, and increased by one’s own effort. Mistake privileges for rights and see how fast we LOSE them.
What is – Fact
What ought to be – Fiction
Learning – Play the part of a tape recorder.
Inquiry –
Discovery – Creative action as it relates to me; comes from a “doing.”
Selfish – Enlightened self-interest, deep inquiry into what is to my advantage (to never harm anyone); what is – to me – good. To be capable of union of Truth and Good.
Greed – Urge to have more; what one is when not consciously selfish.
Opposites – Non-existent in reality; based on judging terms — basis of judgment being one’s senses or conditioning.
Degree of – Descriptive term of anything.
Philosophical - Reasoning with words. Don’t bite!!! — using logic. “If this, then that” – a way to win an argument.
Scientific – Based on observation and experiment. Came into common usage about 100 years ago.
Description – To describe by use of adjectives on which there is common agreement. E.g. colors, measurements, etc.
Judging – Adjectives used on which there is no common agreement because they are based on the speaker’s personal taste and conditioning. E.g. “pretty,” “old,”, “ugly,” etc. (Comparative adjective, judging.)
Thinking (verb) – Association based on the past; “this reminds me of that.”
Thought (noun) – Mental process. May be awareness; may be description, may be judging. Associated with experiencing at this moment.
Direct – Approaching a problem or situation through understanding the situation. Not looking for a pre-conceived result.
Indirect – Approaching the problem or situation by trying to find a solution away from the problem; going out from the problem. Denial of Responsibility.
Freedom To – Responsibility; free to choose what is really worthwhile (good to me.) Free to accept that I am doing this. Free To experience what is; any inner feeling that I may experience and find <unsure> in my way
Free From – Denying responsibility; struggle, resistance, and conflict, disturbance. (I am a victim of my inner feelings. I am not responsible for my own behavior.) Free from:
Problem – a conditioned view of a challenge. When we don’t know:
- What we are
- Where we are
- What we are doing
We then make it important to create an image of oneself, of where we are and what we are doing. This is a “self” image; then the real self dies and the false self takes over. (“I have this, and I want that; however, that becomes this as soon as I get it.)
This is to be possessed by a homemade demon. This is the problem (the self). This is resistance, conflict, struggle against what is, against what we are, and what we are doing. The challenge is to know the self.
Identification – Labels
THE NATURE OF INTGRATION of The Whole, Unfragmented Being
It is not stated that integration is a desirable goal, but the end of disintegration is very worthwhile. A person cannot intelligently choose a purpose until there is an end to disintegration.
It is to our advantage to see and be aware of the accumulated beliefs (note: all come in PAIRS – do this but don’t do this) without resistance or judgment, resulting in an end of conflict. We are not interested in looking for Truth only – only in finding misconceptions. When the false is seen, TRUTH IS. As a buried treasure, we find truth when we remove the dirt. When we get the dirt off, the treasure is. We are studying the pharmacology of dirt — physical, mental, and emotional.
We are interested in seeing conflict, misconception, and stress. Our purpose is to hold up a special mirror to see conflict and misconceptions. By seeing these. one can bring an end to them by bringing into consciousness the misconceptions and see what a comic-tragic joke we have been living... with what grim seriousness we have played the comic-tragic clown.
If I imply to a person that he or she is not responsible – whether I have done this by my actions or by my suggestions that are expressed by “helping,” – then I have harmed them. For this, I will get a balance, which means that I will pay. We work with them, thereby recognizing that they are responsible.
To do something (get angry, emotional, etc.) freely, on purpose, willingly – is to make the symptoms of anger, embarrassment etc. go away without judging or criticizing the action and inner feeling.
Cooperation Versus Help
Cooperate – work together as equals. (Know when to cooperate.)
Help – one person is doing it for another. The first necessity for helping another is to look down on them.
