{"id":315,"date":"2020-11-12T13:36:11","date_gmt":"2020-11-12T18:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marshasummers.com\/wordpress\/?p=315"},"modified":"2020-11-12T13:36:11","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T18:36:11","slug":"about-attention-and-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marshasummers.com\/wordpress\/?p=315","title":{"rendered":"About Attention and Approval"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u00a0<strong>From Half Moon Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Question: (So how much\nattention or approval do we need.&nbsp; How\nlittle&#8230;&#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How much attention and\napproval do you need?&nbsp; Well, why don&#8217;t\nyou give yourself what you require?&nbsp; You\nknow, I figure nobody knows how wonderful I am as much as I do.&nbsp; I know people that disapprove of me just got poor\ntaste and I&#8217;m goin&#8217; about my business.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know how much you\nwould need to give yourself?&nbsp; You see in\nthe ultimate end, it&#8217;s your own approval you desire, not mine.&nbsp; I can come along and tell you how beautiful\nyou are; and how wonderful you are; and you&#8217;ll say to yourself \u201cHe was just\ndoin&#8217; this to try to make me feel good\u201d or \u201cHe was makin&#8217; fun of me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; So it&#8217;s your approval, your image of yourself\nthat counts.&nbsp; So can you give yourself\nenough approval or do you want and expect the rest of us give it.&nbsp; You&#8217;ll never believe the rest of us anyway,\nis that right?&nbsp; But we&#8217;ve been taught\nthat we should always \u201cput ourselves down\u201d.&nbsp;\nBut if you put yourself down, who&#8217;s gonna \u2018put you up\u2019, is that\nright?&nbsp; Or you wouldn&#8217;t believe &#8217;em\nanyway, would you?&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve been told how\nbeautiful you were ever since you was this high, is that right?&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(This high.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve been told that all\nof your life, haven&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Well, about&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well most of your life, is\nthat right?&nbsp; That you&#8217;re a beautiful\nlady.&nbsp; Do you buy it or do you think\nyou&#8217;re a &#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(I think they&#8217;re lying.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right.&nbsp; So the only approval and attention that\nreally matters is what you give yourself.&nbsp;\nNow let&#8217;s all get that straight.&nbsp;\nNow that don&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re conceited or anything of the sort.&nbsp; The point is if you can&#8217;t approve of\nyourself, you won&#8217;t buy it if somebody else does.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve watched you for a long time,&nbsp; You give yourself the &#8220;put down&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Yeah.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeah.&nbsp; And you give yourself the put down, And so&#8217;s\nabout everybody else here.&nbsp; Now we all\ngive ourselves a put down, is that right?&nbsp;\nThe only attention and approval in the ultimate end that matters is what\nyou give yourself, okay?&nbsp; And that\ndoesn&#8217;t mean that you have to run and tell everybody how wonderful you are, but\njust so you know it, okay?&nbsp; You don&#8217;t\nhave to tell anybody about it, just so you know it.&nbsp; Then you got plenty of attention.&nbsp; If you need a little more today, give\nyourself a little more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>[From Marsha\u2026 Once my daughter and I found a sweet little canary flying free \u2013 he obviously had escaped. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>So we caught it, got a cage, food and the necessary accoutrements. My daughter being young would go to school and leave the curtains closed. I felt sad for the canary because as I understand it, we cover the cage at night so the bird will sleep; and then remove it during the day. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>So after a time, I decided to take the canary with me. I told my mentor in music about the bird; and he said to take a lesson from the bird.\u00a0 \u201cWHAT, I thought?\u201d What could I possibly learn from a little canary bird.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>So one day I was doing an afternoon gig singing and playing keyboard with a full house and nobody was paying any attention to me. I felt like a failure,\u00a0 Of course, here comes the self \u201cput down: and I left dejected. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Upon arriving home I could see in my front window and there was the canary singing his little heart out at the top of his voice. I thought about that lesson I was challenged to learn and realized that this canary didn\u2019t need an audience.
